Buce smiled when he picked up his phone after it had buzzed. Typing in his code he sent his own message back.

[Encrypted Message][Status: Sent]: For you Tweetie always. What can I do for my lover man.

He knew that cough, not everyone would be able to tell the difference. With a huge smile he shifted in his seat, looking out the window as the scenery flew by, getting him that much closer to his boyfriend. Every time a sound was made he held his breath, hoping Bruce wouldn’t realize what he was doing. That would really ruin everything. “I have plenty of time, my darling. And it is not just some other day, hun. It’s your birthday and I’m going to make it the best one ever. As good as I can of course.” Clint hated hearing Bruce down like this, especially on his birthday, but he perked up a little remembering this would fix it right up.

“Aw sweets? That’ll be nice for you and I know.. You would get some if I could send them. But even if I could send them, it wouldn’t be the same. I wish I could be there, sweetheart, I really do.” The agent really wanted to lay it in thick, make the surprise even more so of one. Shifting once again in his seat to get comfy in the godawful seats, and sighed, “That sounds fun and a good idea. That bag does look a little worse for wear.” 

Listening to the sounds on the other side of the phone, it made him homesick. “Uh, the mission? Still in recon phase. ‘S why I can talk to you all day, old man.” the archer chuckled softly, “So it’s pretty boring right now. just waiting out the anticipation. Not much else is going on. Wish they had flew me in when things actually got started, but it’s too late now.” Barton’s heart sank a little, almost wanting to give up his secret so the physicist wouldn’t be so down, especially today. “I miss you too, Bruce. More than anything and I can;t wait to be back with you.”

“After forty-four years Clint and at least ten spent on the run in some form. It just really feels like any other day to me. But Thank you for trying to make it special, even so far away. Last person to make a fuss over it was Betty…” He paused. Betty wasn’t someone they normally brought up or even talked about. It was almost a strict no ex rule between them really. Unspoken but still never really done. Trying to recover from it he thinks quickly. “But I have Reb to keep me company this year in your absence and our four legged child will do. He smells to I think I might try and give him a bath tonight.” 

Paying he left the store. Now well past mid day the grey afternoon stated to heat as the sun started to come out from behind the clouds. “Sounds like its going to be a long mission. One of the ones that might take you away a month or more.” He hated that Fury or Hill or who ever was in charge would keep putting Clint on such long missions. Maybe if he made an appeal to one of them that Clint being home helped him cope with the other guy they would give him shorter missions. Not that he thought it would really work but what could it hurt to try. Other then having to talk to an organization he would really rather stay far far FAR away from.

“Think they might let us have a skype call or two for a conjugal.” He was trying to make it more light hearted. He had to give the archer something happier then a grumpy old man today. For his boyfriend He could try that. “I have to ask you, if I had asked you to marry me before you left.. what would you have said?” Bruce had been wondering that since the agent had left for the base and out. Since he had really just chickened out in that moment.
